While Germany sets off for a new era of freedom, rebellious fourteen-year-old Wolfgang gets sent to Freistatt, a foster home for difficult children. Tortured and hard working he decides to flee. When he makes his way back to his hometown, his mother and stepfather won't believe his story, betray him to extradite him again to the headmaster.
