The film opens with Wesley Deeds, head of the family-owned Deeds Corporation and his fianc�e, Natalie. They have lunch with their mother and then Wilimena meets Natalie, her mother and her best friend at the bridal shop. The two mothers urge Natalie to think about her future with Wesley.
